Curcumall® presentation at The 12th Conference on Pain Medicine in Italy Sep. 21-23, 2017

Aviva Rabinovich, the inventor/developer of Curcumall®, was invited to give a presentation on the health benefits of turmeric and curcumin at the 12th Conference on Pain Medicine in Padua Italy (September 21-23, 2017). Circa 150 Italian physicians attended the conference that covered new research on alternative pain treatments.  The Conference dealt with medicinal plants like turmeric and cannabis and their use.

Aviva’s presentation focused on the cellular mechanisms of turmeric/curcumin that were researched in recent years.  She described the action of Nuclear Factor-Kappa B (NF-ĸB) – the mediator of inflammation and the inhibition of NF-KappaB by turmeric/curcumin. Turmeric/curcumin was found to inhibit the development of a wide variety of health problems.

Normally NF-ĸB resides in the cytoplasm of the cell and is bound to its inhibitor—I KappaB (Inhibitor of ĸB).  Stimuli like injuries, trigger the release of the enzyme IκB kinase (IKK complex) that causes the release of NF-Kappa B from its inhibitor.  The free NF-KappaB, moves into the nucleus of the cell and activates genes that cause the release of the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2).  Cox-2 stimulates inflammation.  Research shows that Curcumin inhibits the expression of COX-2.
