Anti-inflammatory action of Curcumin
From a recent Japanese research
“Curcumin is a polyphenol found in the spice turmeric that is used as a natural drug. Curcumin exhibits various physiological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anticancer activities. It inhibits signalling pathways, such as nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-kappaB) and myeloid differentiation protein 2-Toll-like receptor 4 co-receptor pathways, activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-gamma) and inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin (IL)-1beta. The US Food and Drug Administration has approved curcumin as a compound that is GRAS “generally recognised as safe”
