Study: Curcumin against Coronavirus
The recent coronavirus COVID-19 that causes pneumonia pandemic with severe acute respiratory syndrome is now a major threat to global health. A recent study was planned to screen natural products from Ayurveda that have the potential to modulate host immune system as well as block the virus entry in host cells by interfering its interaction with cellular receptor.
The study exhibited that curcumin, nimbin, and a few other Ayureveda substances have significant binding affinity towards spike glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2 and ACE2 receptor and may be useful as a therapeutic and/or prophylactic agent for restricting viral attachment to the host cells. This means that curcumin and a few other natural substances that were tested may be used in the future to develop an effective and broad-spectrum strategy for the management of COVID-19.
The results of the study suggest that curcumin and nimbin exhibited highest interaction with spike glycoprotein and ACE2 receptor as compared with other selected natural products/drugs and controls.
To avoid the COVID-19 try Curcumall®, the concentrated liquid turmeric/curcumin extract.
